Stinson's Carpets is proud to have teamed up with Mohawk Industries to provide Polk County with an exciting opportunity to give back to the community while helping the environment. Stinson’s is currently collecting plastic bottles at their Design Center located at 2315 Commerce Point Drive in Lakeland, Florida.
Mohawk Industries is one of the world’s largest recyclers of plastic soda and water bottles (made from polyethylene terephthalate or PET, also known as polyester). Mohawk recycles over 3 billion plastic bottles annually – that’s 25% of all the bottles collected in North America. The bottles are recycled into P.E.T. chips and the chips are then processed into EverStrand fiber. The EverStrand fiber is then made into beautiful, long-lasting carpet.
The reason for collecting the plastic bottles is to provide the carpet for the Polk County Builder’s Associations “Go Green” home. This home is being built by Hickman Homes for the 2009 Fall Parade of Homes. Mike Hickman has been awarded Polk County’s Builder of the Year three separate times. The proceeds for this home go to the PCBA Foundation. The Foundation was established to provide the youth of Central Florida an opportunity in understanding and pursuing a career in the home building industry.
Mohawk Industries has determined it takes 2,370 bottles to make the carpet for this home. Stinson's Carpets and Mohawk have agreed to donate the carpet if we can collect the 2,370 bottles. Thanks for helping us Floor Lakeland!
